Tuesday 9th June at Worcester Cathedral

Wednesday 10th June at Worcester Cathedral

Please submit before Monday 3rd February 2020

What you need to know before applying:

Inspired by a specific space within Worcester Cathedral, and guided by the iconography, architecture, geography, history, religious meaning, artwork, sounds, social or impactful nature of that site; a professional artist in drama, dance, music, singing, physical theatre or spoken word will share their inspiration with your school group to create a unique performance.

All devising work will take place in your school over two days or equivalent, just before or soon after the Easter holidays. On the day of the performance, this site-inspired piece will be rehearsed in the space which informed it during the afternoon, and then performed in front of an audience in the evening.

This will be a promenade performance where the audience is guided to move between each performance site around the Cathedral. To ensure good viewing, the audience will be separated into two pre-arranged groups meaning each group of performers will present their piece twice during the evening.

The full performance which starts at 7.00pm should last approximately 70-75 minutes with each individual piece lasting 5 minutes. Due to some time and space restrictions, the Young Voices New Visions management team has pre-selected this year’s sites and created a route and running order based on their location within the Cathedral.

Depending on which site your group performs in, there will be a roll-call for afternoon rehearsals and a secure ‘green room’ space will be provided for rest, refreshments and to leave coats/bags etc. Each participating school group will need to be available in the Cathedral soon after lunch-time onwards on performance day although specific technical rehearsal timeslots will be given to each school group if selected. We will arrange activities related to the Cathedral to occupy groups whilst awaiting their technical rehearsal slot.

There will be a full-company dress-run at 3.30pm allowing each group to rehearse in front of an audience of their peers and for all to enjoy and support the work of the other groups.

Participants will include schools from across the county and independent youth arts groups. Please note, participants do not have to be made up of full-size classes and can also be after school clubs.

Successful applicants will be informed by close of Monday 10th February. Your allocated professional artist will then be in touch after half term to arrange dates to come in and work with your group.

If you have any questions, please contact Marie Oldaker (Performance Co-Ordinator) on [email protected] 0785 559 5287, who is managing Young Voices New Visions on behalf of Severn Arts.
